Barcelona is known as a cultural city throughout the world, with an important heritage and a permanent and exciting range of activities on offer.

Barcelona boasts renowned architectural interest, from Roman walls to the new urban planning schemes of the eighties. Modernist heritage and contemporary architecture are of prime interest in the city.

The city offers lots of different options for recreation. Over 40 museums with art collections such as the Picasso Museum, the Fundació Joan Miró and the Fundacio Antoni Tàpies which hold permanent exhibitions of works by the artists apart from temporary exhibitions.

There are plenty of temporary exhibitions of contemporary art at the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona; and a big range of art galleries.

Parks in Barcelon

Park Güell:
Güell park, designed by the famous architect Antonio Gaudí is the most famous park in Barcelona and has been declared by UNESCO a World Heritage Site. It has been widely praised and criticized. It used to be private property until it became a public park in 1922. The main entrance to the park and the stairway leading to the Hundred Columns Room are structures where Gaudí clearly let his imagination completely run a drift.

Ciutadella Park
This beautiful park, which used to be a military base, is very interesting for its social life. You´ll find there’s a romantic lake where you can rent boats, there is also a cute winter garden and lots of vegetation.

You can also find palaces of typical Spanish architecture filled with art here. In 1888 the park was used for the Universal Exhibition and many of the beautiful buildings were constructed for that. The gardens and fountains were also designed in that time, partly by a very young Gaudí.
